Why Two Rivers?

Two Rivers Fly Fishing specializes in Trout Spey and more recently, Micro Skagit/Micro Spey using lighter weight single hand rods (traditional 3-5 weight Trout Rods). The name represents the two rivers that are within 20 minutes from my house in Eugene, Oregon – the McKenzie River (and their associated native Redside’s – and my favorite of the two) and the Willamette River – which flows directly through Eugene and Springfield Oregon, and has not only trout, but the town run for summer Steelhead and Salmon runs.

I’m a soft hackle and micro intruder addict – and having success when dries and nymphs failed to produce, have decided that unless advised otherwise, I will fish nothing but…

For many, myself included, fly fishing is a form of therapy that hearkens back to a simpler time – a time that for the most part no longer exists due to the ever accelerating of digital technology that pervades our society today.  The constant barrage of digital images, information, marketing hype, and more, has made fly fishing seem unobtainable to the average person.  The idea of spending several hundred dollars on a single fly rod, and the same amount for a reel, line, waders, wading boots, etc makes the pastime appear to be one for those who are affluent.  As with anything, there are those companies who produce high end products for the more affluent customer, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a place for us mere mortals to enjoy nature while pursuing a pastime that can bring a great amount of fulfillment each time we participate in it.

The Inspiration for this site.

Tyler Graff, the creator of Baetis & Stones, is the inspiration for this site.  My slant for this site is about simplifying the associated gear one would want/need in order to fly fish.  That includes what flies to fish with. I’m a strong believer in using soft hackle wet flies and especially micro/nano intruder flies for trout spey and micro skagit.  It brings a unique perspective to fly fishing, one that doesn’t require alot of time and energy in learning to fish dry flies to match specific hatches, nor requires more complicated methodologies for fishing nymphs.  Wet flies are the original type of fly that have been fished for over 200 years.  I’ve personally experienced their effectiveness on the McKenzie River Redside’s using the traditional tight line swing – a method also used to fly fish for steelhead, without the wondering if there’s even a fish in the vicinity of where you’re casting.

I have setup this site as a place where you can find exactly what you need to get into micro skagit/Micro Spey fishing and I’m available to answer questions you may have about the gear and associated fishing with it. I blog about my personal thoughts, observations and experiences while on the river.  Please subscribe so that you can be notified when new content is posted as well as soon to be announced offers.

In addition, I’m looking to partner/collaborate with manufacturers who also have a like minded approach to flyfishing.  Please contact me if you are interested.

Welcome.
