Description

Taking a cue from my Copper/Orange Micro Intruder, I have designed this fly as a smaller version that is easily castable with a 2wt two handed trout spey and 3wt single hand micro skagit setup.

This straight eye bead weighted fly will sink fairly quick due to the slight amount of weight so you can swing this on a standard tapered trout leader using a floating line or you can opt to attach it to a short sinking tip or sinking polyleader to get it down into deeper water. Having field tested this fly on my Redington 6 piece 3 wt Trout series rod using an OPST 150gr Commando head with OPST floating or riffle sinking tip tip with flat mono shooting line and attached to a 7ft standard tapered trout leader terminating with 6lb tippet. It easily cast this fly out to 50 ft in a mild wind. It resulted in a feisty 14 inch native rainbow trout on the upper Willamette River when all other soft hackles used to imitate the insects coming off were ignored.  The joy of feeling a 12-16″ trout on a light weight rod is pure fun IMO.

The color combination is already proven for me and many other customers in the larger size I offer here on my shop and it has elicited savage hits that felt like very large fish. Those who know about fishing micro intruder flies already know that these types of flies will elicit larger fish into striking at what they see as a large meal. This is my go to fly especially when fishing up higher on smaller streams and soft hackles aren’t being taken especially on my 3wt single hand micro skagit rod setup..

The total length of the fly is 1″ from eye to end of trailing hook. I customize the length of the shank and use a size 10 intruder hook.
